Boo Bugs with Spider Web Dip

This is a great appetizer for a children's Halloween Party!

For the Bugs

• 1 can (11 oz.) Pillsbury® refrigerated breadsticks
• 24 cocktail-size smoked link sausages (14 oz. package)
• 3.4 cup shoestring potatoes or chow mein noodles
• Ketchup, barbecue sauce and/or mustard for decorating

For the Spider Web Dip

• 1 cup ranch dressing
• 1 tablespoon ketchup or 1 tablespoon marinara sauce

Directions

1. Heat oven to 375°. Unroll dough and separate at perforation into 12 breadsticks. With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each breadstick in half crosswise, making 24 pieces.
2. Wrap each piece of dough around center of each sausage, pinching to seal and leaving each end of sausage showing.
3. Place seam side down and 1/2" apart on large ungreased cookie sheet.
4. Bake 11 to 14 minutes or until golden brown. Immediate remove from cookie sheet and place on serving tray. Cool 2 minutes.
5. Insert shoestring potatoes into baked dough to resemble legs and antennae. Decorate "bugs" with dots or stripes of ketchup and mustard.
6. Spread ranch dressing in a 9" glass pie plate or dinner plate. 
7. Spoon ketchup into a small resealable food-storage plastic bag. Seal and cut a tiny hole in one of the bottom corners. Squeeze bag to draw a coil of ketchup or marinara sauce over ranch dressing.
8.  Drag toothpick through coil from center out, created a web. Serve dip with "bugs."

Fall Is In The Air ...

Fall is in the air and I've been busy creating some cute Halloween Necklaces and Earrings. Here are the designs:

Here is an example of the necklace and earrings:

The earrings are 1/2" glass with artwork glazed and sealed to the back and then they are attached to a silvertone leverback, earwire or post with butterfly stop.

The necklaces are 7/8" glass with the artwork glazed and sealed to the back. The bail and 24" chair are silvertone.

I am working on Thanksgiving and Christmas designs at this time.

Halloween Masks

Fun, rainy day activity for kids!

Over the years, I have collected some printable Halloween Masks. These can be printed, embellished with sequins, glitter, glow in the dark paint or whatever your creative mind can come up with. I've even used glitter nail polish to jazz them up! Two of them are made for children to color and then, with adult supervision of course, cut out.

Recycled Pumpkin ... Dual Purpose

The New Jack

Many years ago, at least 10, I went to a Halloween party and won this large pumpkin for my creative costume. But, I do believe I won it for the hair. My foot tall hair that was teased and sprayed so stiff it didn't move the entire night, even while driving and sticking out of the sunroof of the car.

Over the years, this poor pumpkin has been bumped, bruised and basically abused. So, when I pulled out "Jack", as we lovingly call him, this year, he was peeling and basically looked like he was ready for the trash. Not wanting to get rid of him, I decided he could be saved!

Leaves from Dollar Tree, orange spray paint from Walmart, yellow acrylic paint from my supply and Glow In The Dark Paint from Michael's, these berry looking things I had left over from some project, some leftover rattan covered wire from another project and then creativity began.

First, I peeled all the loose "paper" from him. Not exactly sure if it was paper, but where it was loose, it peeled easily. Then I wiped him with a damp cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Out to the back yard Jack and I went with the can of orange spray paint. I sprayed him all over, giving him a shiny new coat of orange. I was careful not to spray to much where the mouth, nose and eyes were since I was painting those yellow.

Once the orange paint was dry, I let it sit 24 hours, I proceeded to paint the mouth, nose and eyes with the yellow paint. I applied 3 coats to make sure I had good coverage. I let that dry overnight and then applied two coats of Glow In The Dark Paint to the mouth, nose and eyes area.

The stem on top I painted with some coppery brown glitter nail polish that was just sitting here not being used. It was perfect!

Once all paint and nail polish was dry, I proceeded to apply the leaves, mixing the different shades of yellow, orange and rust, around the top of the pumpkin creating a cute little hat for Jack. Once that was dry, I took my little berry clumps and glued around the stem area.

I then took the rattan covered wire, cut 2 pieces about 8" long. Taking one piece at a time, I wrapped it around a pencil, leaving enough straight on the end to tuck under the leaves and glue.

I let everything dry over night. And, standing back looking, I was proud to say, Jack looked great!

 Now you say, dual purpose? Well, as you can see from the first photo above, Jack looks great in his dapper leaf hat! But, if I simply turn Jack around after Halloween is over, I have a beautiful fall pumpkin!

So Jack will be displayed proudly on my front porch from now until November 28th when Christmas decorations start appearing!

• Paper cutter or scissors
• Stapler
• Clear tape

Treats:

• Candy corn
• Miniature marshmallows or white chocolate chips
• Golden graham cereal or Chex cereal
• Raisins
• Miniature or regular chocolate chips
• Orange jellybeans

Basic Instructions for 4" x 6" Bag:

The artwork contains 6 folder over tags that are 4" x 3" unfolded, 4" x 1.5" folded. Print out the number you need and follow the cut lines to cut out each one.

Put some of each treats (1 tablespoon each or more) into the reclosable bag and seal. Then shake the mixture to the top area of the bag, fold the excess bag up and tap. Then take the label and fold in half, put over the top of the bag and staple above the reclosable area.

If you are using a clear/Halloween decorated candy/gift bag, cut the bag down to size to hold the treat mixture, with enough to fold over twice and then staple the tag on.

• Paper cutter or scissors
• Stapler
• Clear tape

Basic Instructions for 4" x 6" Bag:

The artwork contains 6 folder over tags that are 4" x 3" unfolded, 4" x 1.5" folded. Print out the number you need and follow the cut lines to cut out each one.

Put 1/4 cup or more of raisins into the reclosable bag and seal. Take the label and fold in half, put over the top of the bag and staple above the reclosable area.

If you are using a clear/Halloween decorated candy/gift bag, cut the bag down to size to hold the chocolate chips, with enough to fold over twice and then staple the tag on.

NOTE: Since mine only filled about 1/2 of the reclosable bag, I shook the raisins to the top, folded the back up and taped it and then added the topper as instructed above.

Day 5

These treat packs are easy to make (downloadable artwork) and are fun to give out as Halloween treats to your trick-or-treaters, school parties for those little ones or to just have around to give to guest visiting during that time. Be sure to collect them all!

Supplies:

• Orange jellybeans or butterscotch chips
• Artwork (download below)
• White Card Stock
• Clear candy/gift bags or Halloween decorated candy/gift bags (check your local party store, craft store, Walmart or Dollar Tree)
• Paper cutter or scissors
• Ribbon or twine (I used 1/8" wide orange ribbon from Walmart, about $0.48 spool.)
• Hole punch or needle to punch a small hole to thread ribbon through

Basic Instructions:

The artwork contains 6 tags. Print out the number you need and trim out the tag, leaving a small amount of space all the way around the tag.

Put 1/4 cup or more of orange jellybeans or butterscotch chips into the bag. Gather the bag and tie with the ribbon or twine tightly. Punch a hole into the stem area of the tag and thread the tag onto the ribbon or twine, tie into a small bow and then trim streamers. Give the excess bag a ragged trim and then fluff out.

If you are using a clear/Halloween decorated candy/gift bag, cut the bag down to size to hold the cereal, with enough to fold over twice and then staple the tag on.

NOTE: Since mine only filled about 1/2 of the reclosable bag, I shook the cereal to the top, folded it up in the back and taped it and then put the tag on and stapled as per directions above.

Look for a fall flavor like the new Maple & Brown Sugar Life Cereal. So yummy!
